Bungie has deployed Hotfix 8.2.5.4 for Destiny 2, addressing several critical bugs that have been plaguing Guardians. The update fixes a progression-blocking issue in the Vesper's Host Dungeon, resolves a memory leak with the Runneth Over Origin trait, and corrects unintended behavior with weapons and artifact mods.
Vesper's Host Dungeon No Longer Blocking Progress
The most significant fix in this update addresses the frustrating issue in the Vesper's Host Dungeon where panels for Access Override Puzzle #3 were immune to damage, effectively preventing players from progressing. Guardians who found themselves stuck at this checkpoint can now breathe a sigh of relief and continue their journey through this challenging endgame activity.
Weapon Fixes: Double Perks and Memory Leaks
Two notable weapon-related issues have been resolved in this update. First, regular versions of The Palindrome and Lotus-Eater weapons will no longer drop with double perks, which was causing unintended advantages for some players who obtained these weapons.
Perhaps more importantly, Bungie has fixed a memory leak issue with the Runneth Over Origin trait. This bug was causing Destiny 2 to gradually consume more system memory when reloading weapons with this trait, eventually leading to performance issues or crashes as the game ran out of available memory. Players who experienced mysterious performance degradation during extended play sessions may find their game running more smoothly after this update.
What happened with the To Shreds artifact mod?
The To Shreds artifact mod received a necessary adjustment, as it was incorrectly buffing all ability damage instead of its intended effect. Bungie even included a humorous note in the patch notes, "To Shreds, you say. Tsk, tsk, tsk," referencing the popular Futurama meme while acknowledging the mod's overpowered state.
Update Availability
Update 8.2.5.4 was released on November 2, 2023, and should be available now across all platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. As always with Destiny 2 updates, players will need to download and install the patch before logging in.
While this update focuses entirely on bug fixes rather than new content, these improvements should create a more stable and balanced experience for all Guardians as they continue their adventures throughout the solar system.
