Mojang Studios has announced a new cosmetic reward for Minecraft players. Starting May 6, 2025, players who sign in to Bedrock Edition with a Microsoft account will receive the exclusive "Common Cape" item, inspired by one of the game's most iconic blocks. This limited-time offer runs for exactly one year, giving players until May 5, 2026, to claim their permanent cosmetic addition.

How to Get Your Free Common Cape

Claiming the new cape couldn't be simpler. Players need to sign in to Minecraft Bedrock Edition using a Microsoft account on any supported device between May 6, 2025 (9:00 a.m. PDT) and May 5, 2026 (11:59 p.m. PDT). The cape will be automatically added to their inventory.

Players who already use a Microsoft account will receive the cape automatically the next time they play after the promotion begins. Those without a Microsoft account can create one by following the official steps here.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

One of the most appealing aspects of this promotion is the cape's versatility. Once acquired, the Common Cape can be worn in both Bedrock and Java Editions of Minecraft. The cosmetic remains permanently attached to the Microsoft account and will be available on every platform where the player owns the game when signed in with the same account.

What if my cape doesn't appear?

According to Mojang, players should wait up to 15 minutes if the cape doesn't appear immediately. Alternatively, restarting the game can force an inventory refresh. For those experiencing continued issues, the Microsoft account Sign-in Helper is available for troubleshooting.

Benefits Beyond the Cape

While the Common Cape is the headline attraction, Mojang took the opportunity to highlight several benefits of using a Microsoft account with Minecraft:

  • Cross-platform multiplayer access
  • Enhanced security with two-factor authentication
  • Improved parental controls
  • Chat and invitation blocking features
  • Access to Marketplace content across different platforms
  • Achievement unlocking capabilities

The promotion is limited to one cape per Microsoft Account, making this a perfect opportunity for players who haven't yet connected their game to a Microsoft account to do so. As with all promotions, terms apply.
