Mojang Studios has released the Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.80 update, bringing flat world presets to Bedrock players along with numerous bug fixes and exciting experimental features. The update, released on May 6, 2025, introduces eight different flat world options, improved Realms regional support, and a preview of upcoming content in the experimental toggle.
Flat World Presets Finally Come to Bedrock Edition
After years of Java Edition exclusivity, Minecraft Bedrock players can now enjoy flat world presets when creating new worlds. The update adds eight different options accessible through the Advanced tab in the Create New World screen, including Classic Flat, Tunnelers' Dream, Water World, Overworld, Snowy Kingdom, Bottomless Pit, Desert, and Redstone Ready.
These presets offer different configurations of blocks and biomes, giving players more control over their creative environments. Whether you want a simple grass surface for building or specialized layers for redstone contraptions, there's now a preset that fits your needs.
Major Bug Fixes Improve Gameplay Experience
The 1.21.80 update addresses dozens of longstanding issues across various aspects of the game. Notable fixes include:
- Named Slimes and Magma Cubes now retain their names when splitting
- Parrots can now imitate additional mobs including Phantoms and Blazes
- Fixed issues with block collisions around specific coordinates
- Improved Elytra mechanics when using fireworks
- Resolved audio bugs including sound stopping during loading
Mob behavior has been improved, with Wither Skeletons and Zombified Piglins now able to walk in lava, and Camels no longer spawning in spaces too small for them. The update also fixes several user interface issues, particularly for touch control users.
What's New for Realms Players?
Realms subscribers will benefit from improved regional server support, with a new "Advanced" tab in Realms settings allowing owners to select preferred datacenter regions for hosting. This feature gives players more control over server location, potentially reducing latency for players in specific regions.
The system will attempt to honor these preferences based on server capacity, selecting the next closest region if the preferred one is unavailable. Players will also see a message indicating which server region their Realm is assigned to when joining.
Experimental Features Preview Future Content
Players who enable the "Drop 2 2025" experimental toggle can preview exciting upcoming features, including:
- New mobs: Ghastling (baby ghast) and Happy Ghast (a flying mount for up to four players)
- Dried Ghast block that can be waterlogged to spawn a Ghastling
- Harness item for equipping Happy Ghasts for riding
- Locator Bar feature to help track other players in multiplayer
The Happy Ghast represents a significant new transportation option, allowing groups of players to travel together with one player controlling the direction. The first player to mount controls the Happy Ghast, while up to three additional players can ride along.
Vibrant Visuals Experimental Graphics Mode
For players on supported devices (including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and newer mobile devices), the update introduces an experimental "Vibrant Visuals" graphics mode. This new rendering option offers enhanced visuals with adjustable settings to balance between quality and performance.
While still in development, Vibrant Visuals represents Minecraft's next step in visual presentation. The feature is currently incompatible with splitscreen play and some texture packs, but works with Marketplace Add-Ons, Skins, and Persona items.
Editor Updates for Creators
For those using the Minecraft Editor, version 0.9.5 introduces significant improvements to selection tools, including a new widget-based system with click-and-drag Marquee selection and undo/redo support. The update also adds a new tutorial system to help new users learn the Editor's core features.
The 1.21.80 update is now available across all Bedrock platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Players are encouraged to report any issues they encounter with the new features through the official Mojang bug tracker.
