Riot Games has announced the Cyber City Tactician's Crown, a premier Teamfight Tactics tournament featuring 40 of the world's best players competing for a massive $470,000 prize pool. The championship event is set for July 11-13, bringing together top talent from four global regions in what promises to be the ultimate test of tactical prowess.

Cyber City Tactician's Crown: Tournament Structure and Prize Pool

The competition will gather elite players from across the globe, with the champion taking home a staggering $150,000. The remaining prize money will be distributed across all participants, with second place earning $70,000, third place $40,000, and even those finishing 33rd-40th receiving $2,500 each.

Player distribution across regions has been carefully balanced, with APAC receiving 12 spots (11 base plus 1 additional seed), China securing 10 spots, the Americas claiming 12 spots (including one for the previous Tactician's Crown winner), and EMEA rounding out the field with 10 competitors.

Three-Day Format Designed to Crown the Ultimate Tactician

The tournament employs a progressive elimination structure across three days of intense competition. Day 1 begins with all 40 players divided into five lobbies for six games, with lobbies reshuffling every two games. Only the top 32 performers will advance to Day 2.

Day 2 features multiple elimination rounds, gradually reducing the field from 32 to just 8 finalists for the Grand Final. The second day's format includes:

  • Round 2: 32 players in 4 lobbies playing 2 games (top 24 advance)
  • Round 3: 24 players in 3 lobbies playing 2 games (top 16 advance)
  • Round 4: 16 players in 2 lobbies playing 2 games (top 4 advance directly to Finals)
  • Round 5: 8 players in 1 game (top 4 advance to join Finals)

What's Different About the Grand Final Format?

The Grand Final on Day 3 introduces an exciting "Checkmate Format" where victory requires both skill and consistency. Players will compete until someone reaches 20 points AND secures a first-place finish in a game. Points are awarded based on game placement: 8 points for first place, scaling down to 1 point for eighth place.

This format creates dramatic tension as players near the threshold, potentially setting up scenarios where multiple competitors hover just below the winning requirements, waiting for that crucial first-place finish to claim the crown.

The Future of TFT Esports

Riot Games has also announced that starting with Set 15, they'll implement an updated method for determining seed allocation per pan-region. This change signals the developer's continued commitment to evolving the competitive League of Legends TFT ecosystem.

The Cyber City Tactician's Crown follows in the footsteps of previous successful tournaments, including the recent "Into the Arcane Tactician's Crown" won by Dishsoap, and earlier championships like "Magic n' Mayhem," "Remix Rumble," and "Dragonlands."
