Portal Customization Comes to TFT with Cyber City
Riot Games announced on March 17, 2025, that League of Legends' auto-battler mode Teamfight Tactics (TFT) will receive a major cosmetic update with the introduction of customizable Portals. The feature will launch alongside the Cyber City update on April 2, 2025, giving players a new way to express themselves on the battlefield.
According to Riot Prism, Portals are the magical gateways that allow Tacticians to travel between sets, dimensions, and arenas within the Convergence. While they've always been part of TFT's lore, players will now be able to customize these mystical entrances for the first time.
Portal Tiers and Pricing Structure
Similar to other cosmetics in TFT, Portals will be available in the Rotating Shop under the Mythic section. Players can expect two distinct tiers of Portals:
- Standard Portals - Priced at 1 Mythic Medallion
- Legendary Portals - Priced at 3 Mythic Medallions
For players who don't want to spend Mythic Medallions, a Portal called "Enter the Cyberspace" will be available through the Pass+ for Cyber City's release, offering an alternative acquisition method.
What Portals Will Be Available at Launch?
The initial batch of Standard Portals includes four distinct options:
- Event Horizon
- Honey Hive Hatch
- Splash Party
- Eldritch Eye
For players looking for more elaborate options, two Legendary Portals will launch with Cyber City:
- Janna's Fantastic Forecast - A weather-themed portal featuring the iconic League of Legends champion
- PROJECT: Chain Vortex - A high-tech portal inspired by the popular PROJECT skin line
How Portals Work In-Game
Riot has emphasized that Portals are purely cosmetic and won't provide any gameplay advantages. Players will be able to see their own Portal during the planning phase and when teleporting to others' Arenas. However, to prevent providing additional information during scouting phases, other players will see the default Portal when viewing your board.
After the planning phase ends, when someone is actively traveling to your Arena, they'll see your selected Portal in all its glory. This design ensures that Portal customization remains a visual treat without impacting competitive integrity.
Improved Cosmetic System Features
Along with Portals, TFT is rolling out several quality-of-life improvements to its cosmetic system with the Cyber City update:
- Players can now favorite up to 30 items per cosmetic category
- A new randomize feature allows selection from favorites only
- The random button functionality has been improved for faster creation of random loadouts
These enhancements should make managing growing cosmetic collections much easier for dedicated players who have amassed numerous options over time.
The Future of TFT Portals
Riot has confirmed that more Portals will be released over time, with the team actively seeking player feedback on future Portal designs. This suggests that Portals could become a significant part of TFT's cosmetic ecosystem moving forward, similar to the popular Booms, Arenas, and Tacticians.
The Cyber City update, including the new Portal feature, launches on April 2, 2025. Players interested in learning more about the gameplay changes coming with Cyber City can check out the Cyber City Overview on the official TFT website.
For TFT veterans looking to expand their cosmetic collection, this new customization option offers yet another way to personalize their gameplay experience in the ever-evolving world of the Convergence.
