Techland is calling on the Harran faithful to mobilize one more time. Ten years after Kyle Crane first dropped into the quarantine zone, the developers are asking the community to nominate Dying Light for the "Labor of Love" category in the 2025 Steam Awards.
It is rare for a primarily single-player and co-op experience to maintain momentum for a full decade, but Techland has kept the lights on in Harran long past the typical industry shelf life. The studio points to the recent Dying Light: Retouched Update—which overhauled visuals and audio fidelity—as proof that they aren't done polishing the original experience, even with the sequel well established in the market.
A Decade of Survival
The "Labor of Love" category is specifically designed for older titles that continue to receive developer support well past their initial launch window. For a 2015 release to be in the conversation in 2025 is a testament to the game's fluid parkour mechanics and the sheer stubbornness of its community. While many developers move on to new projects once the season pass content concludes, the Retouched Update demonstrates that there is still technical work happening under the hood to keep the game looking modern on current hardware.
Does Dying Light deserve the nomination?
If you are still running night raids for Antizin or messing around with the physics in the slums, the answer is likely yes. Competition in this category is usually fierce, often dominated by massive MMOs or infinite sandbox sims like Terraria or No Man's Sky. Seeing a narrative-driven zombie survival game in the mix highlights just how unique Dying Light's post-launch roadmap has been compared to its peers.
The nomination period is currently open. If you want to see the original Harran adventure take the crown over newer live-service giants, head over to the Steam store page to cast your vote.
