If your recent sessions in Astroneer have felt a bit sluggish or you've struggled to get your full squad into a lobby, you aren't alone. System Era Softworks has just deployed Hotfix 2 for the Megatech Update on PC, directly targeting a nasty memory leak and a frustrating multiplayer restriction that slipped through largely due to legacy data.
Squashing the 'Resipound' Memory Leak
The biggest technical win in this patch is a fix for a memory leak tied to what the devs call "Resipound." In plain English, this involved old Limited Time Event (LTE) seeds causing data bloat in your save files. The game was essentially choking on leftovers from previous events, which caused performance to degrade the longer you played. This patch cleans up that excess data, which should result in significantly smoother performance and fewer crashes during long sessions.
Multiplayer Caps and DLC Fixes
Co-op players hit a weird wall with the Megatech launch where the game wouldn't let you invite more than three friends, despite the game supporting more on dedicated servers. Hotfix 2 has lifted this accidental cap, so you can get your full crew back online.
additionally, if you purchased the new DLC but found the game ignoring your wallet, this update addresses the issue where the purchase confirmation mission failed to trigger. The content should now unlock properly upon loading in.
Why is Astroneer crossplay not working?
There is a temporary downside to this rapid patching. Because Hotfix 2 (and the previous Hotfix 1) are already live on PC but are still stuck in certification for consoles, crossplay is currently broken.
Dedicated servers running the new PC version cannot communicate with the older versions currently on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch. This isn't a bug, but a version mismatch. Once Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo approve the patches—likely within the next few days—everyone will be on the same version and crossplay will automatically reactivate.
A Warning for Mod Users
System Era also issued a specific warning regarding mods. The Megatech Update changed a lot of the game's architecture. If you are experiencing crashes solely on PC, it is highly likely caused by unsupported mods. The developers recommend disabling them or starting a fresh save if you want to experience the new update without stability issues until modders update their tools.
