The Megatech Update barely landed before System Era Softworks pushed out a critical Day 1 hotfix. While the content drop added massive new structures to Astroneer, it also introduced some instability that this patch aims to squash immediately. The focus here is purely on stability, addressing the most reported bugs from the launch window.
Stability Fixes for Multiplayer
If you tried jumping into a co-op session immediately after the update, you might have hit a wall. The most significant fix in this patch resolves a crash related to the Terrain Tool in multiplayer. Considering the Terrain Tool is your primary means of interacting with the world, this bug was effectively a showstopper for groups.
Additionally, the developers fixed a specific crash involving the Biodome and resolved issues with Walkways and Megastructures. These are the kinds of rapid-response fixes we like to see—addressing the core gameplay loop failures before they fester.
The Crossplay Catch
There is a significant trade-off with this hotfix regarding dedicated servers. Because the PC version (Steam/Microsoft Store) received this patch immediately, but the console versions are still waiting on certification, there is currently a version mismatch.
Until the console certification process clears and the update pushes to PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, crossplay on dedicated servers is effectively broken. You cannot have players on different game versions sharing the same server instance. If you run a mixed-platform community, you are in a holding pattern until the consoles catch up.
Is your modded save crashing?
For the PC crowd running mods, the new update has predictably broken compatibility with older modded saves. The developers have explicitly warned that loading an old save with mods active will likely result in a crash. The current recommendation is to start a fresh save if you intend to keep using mods, or disable them entirely until the modding community updates their tools for the Megatech build.
This is a standard "Day 1" scenario: fixes are live for PC, but the ecosystem is temporarily fractured. Keep an eye on your platform's update queue—once the consoles download the hotfix, crossplay functionality will restore automatically.
