Gameplay

This edition provides 30 days of game time, allowing players to return to or continue their adventures in Azeroth. It also includes Alabaster Stormtalon and Alabaster Thunderwing mounts, available for Alliance and Horde characters respectively, for use in the main game.

Storyline

The storyline includes conflicts such as Thrall's Horde expanding its ranks and inviting the undead Forsaken to join orcs, tauren, and trolls. Dwarves, gnomes, and the night elves pledge their loyalties to the Alliance, guided by the human kingdom of Stormwind. Players can experience events such as the heroes investigating Onyxia's manipulations and Ragnaros resurfacing to endanger both the Horde and Alliance.

Assault on Blackwing Lair

Deep within Blackrock Mountain, the black dragon Nefarian conducts experiments with the blood of other dragonflights, recruiting the remaining Dark Horde. These corrupt orcs, trolls, and other races battle against Ragnaros and the Dark Iron dwarves for control of the mountain. Nefarian creates the chromatic dragons and a legion of other aberrations in his bid to form an army powerful enough to control Azeroth.

Rise of the Blood God

In the ruined temple of Atal'Hakkar, priests of the Blood God Hakkar the Soulflayer attempt to summon the deity's avatar. Reborn in Zul'Gurub, Hakkar takes control of the Gurubashi tribe and mortal champions of the trolls' animal gods. The Zandalari tribe recruits heroes and invades Zul'Gurub to halt Hakkar's influence.

The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj

The desert fortress of Ahn'Qiraj is home to the insectoid qiraji and the Old God C'Thun. As C'Thun incites the qiraji, both the Alliance and Horde prepare for war. A mixed force of soldiers opens the gates of Ahn'Qiraj and lays siege to the ruins, vanquishing C'Thun.

Shadow of the Necropolis

The Lich King gifts the lich Kel'Thuzad with the flying citadel of Naxxramas as a base for the Scourge. Attacks weaken the fortress, leading to Kel'Thuzad's defeat. A traitor runs away with Kel'Thuzad's remains to Northrend, where the lich can be reanimated.
